A woman named Joannah was whisked away to Puerto Rico for a romantic getaway by her then-boyfriend, Dr. Gregory Konrath. He was a wealthy orthopedic surgeon practicing in Peru, Indiana. After a couple of drinks at the beach bar, Joannah says the doctor started to talk about murdering his ex-wife, Ana Konrath, mother of his three children. It wasn’t the first time the doctor spoke about the idea. So Joannah, a divorced mother herself, “reached for her cell phone and started secretly recording him” at the bar.

Joannah’s recording is 23 minutes long. On it, Konrath allegedly lays out in detail how he would kill Ana and make it look like a suicide. He already had the gun, which he’s never touched with his hands — he wore latex gloves when he took it to the range. Joannah was to be his alibi. Konrath has since said that the recording was just a “dark fantasy” and “a lot of it is drunken BS.” He’s now in prison, but not for the attempted murder of his ex-wife.
