Dr. Greg Konrath was an Indiana orthopedic surgeon who allegedly plotted to murder his ex-wife, Ana Konrath. He was secretly recorded talking about the plot – and how to make the murder look like a suicide – by his then-girlfriend. She called the police and they did find evidence (the gun he said he would use in his home) but attempted murder charges were dropped in 2014 because the doctor was not “in the vicinity with the means to commit the murder.” He pleaded guilty on two charges of stalking and served a year in jail. But then he escaped in-home probation — he cut off his tracking device — and fled to Arizona where he was eventually arrested again.

But before all of Konrath’s legal troubles, the successful surgeon became a published author. In 2010, Dr. Gregory Konrath’s crime novel, The Children Are Finally Safe, was published by Dog Ear Publishing. The protagonist of the novel is an American counterintelligence expert who is driven by ghosts of his past to fight terrorists in the Middle East. ABC News’ 20/20 will air its investigative report of Konrath — surgeon, author, stalker and fugitive — on Friday, September 18 at 10pm.
