Dua Lipa looks like a model (she used to be one) and sings like a killer (she currently is one) and is storming the charts like Joan of Frickin’ Arc. She’s also oddly realistic, which can be detrimental to a pop star’s career. You can’t be realistic and play the Super Bowl, right? But all that Dua Lipa down-to-earthism could be a thing of the past soon, because back to the charts. Crushing. Them.
In a witty interview with Peter Robinson at PopJustice, Dua Lipa says she wants to do arena shows but then the realism strikes her. “I feel you need a body of work to be performing in really big venues,” she says. “Maybe first album isn’t really the time. I think you need a lot of songs to do a long set in a massive arena. You’ve got to have two or three [albums].” The Dua Lipa solution? Tracks with others, like No Lie with Sean Paul and “Scared To Be Lonely” with Martin Garrix. Add those to her own hits from last year, “Be the One”, “Blow Your Mind“, plus 2017’s fiery “Hotter Than Hell.” Hotter has been viewed 27 million times. Doesn’t that change “realistic”? Where’s the arena? Sign the deal! For now it’s smaller venues like New York’s Irving Plaza.
