Irishman Andrew Hozier-Byrnes (aka Hozier) is making his debut as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on October 11, 2014. SNL alum Bill Hader is the host. You’re not alone if you don’t know the 24-year-old singer/songwriter. But he did get a lot of attention when his dark, bluesy video Take Me to Church was posted to Reddit. (It featured a gay couple being hunted down and assaulted by an angry mob of young men.) “At one point it was getting like 10,000 views an hour or something,” said Hozier.
Since then, he’s befriended celebrity musicians including Ed Sheeran and Adele but as he admits: “I know I’m not the kind of music that’s going to have tons of screaming fans, and I’m not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea.” Hozier says. “I’m quite sure I don’t want legions of 15-year-old girls who call themselves, like, Broziers or something.
