Comedian Chelsea Handler is single, childless and celebrating her life style — even if some “morons” find her choices “triggering.”
Handler skewers the type of man who feels being “alpha” is central to his identity, and takes some well-aimed shots at a typical example in the video below. “Every time I go on Instagram,” Handler says, she comes across guys like this “pontificating about how unhappy women like me must be.”
[Handler addresses the alpha male movement and its millions of adherents who assert that a woman’s fulfillment, secondary in importance to a man’s, must revolve around marriage and children.]

“That clip was posted to an Instagram called ‘Alpha Motivation Zero’,” Handler reveals before delivering her hard-hitting truth bomb: “If you need daily alpha content to remind you to be an alpha, you might not be an alpha.”
“Take it from an alpha,” she then says, twisting the knife.
‘The “alpha male movement” is a controversial movement that has gained popularity in some online communities, often led by personalities who also traffic in conspiracy theories. The movement is based on the idea that there are certain traits and behaviors that are traditionally associated with being an “alpha male,” such as assertiveness, confidence, and dominance. Advocates of the movement argue that men should embrace these traits in order to achieve success in their personal and professional lives.
It follows that where some see “assertiveness,” others, like Handler, identify a virulent strain of “toxic masculinity.”
Handler is talking to and about “alpha” men like these, whose online influence is vast.
- Jordan Peterson: a Canadian clinical psychologist and professor of psychology who has gained a large following for his views on masculinity and personal responsibility. Peterson has been criticized for his promotion of traditional gender roles and his opposition to progressive social movements.
- Roosh V: a blogger and pick-up artist who has been criticized for his misogynistic views and his promotion of toxic masculinity. Roosh V has advocated for men to adopt a more aggressive and dominant approach to dating and relationships.
- Mike Cernovich: a writer and political commentator who has been associated with the alt-right and the men’s rights movement. Cernovich has been criticized for promoting conspiracy theories and his opposition to feminism and progressive social movements.
