In the Teen Mom OG episode “Modern Families,” while Maci Bookout’s ex Ryan and his wife Mackenzie welcome their first baby together, Bristol Palin talks to her eldest child, 9-year-old Tripp, about his relationship with her ex-husband Dakota Meyer. (Tripp’s father is Bristol’s ex-boyfriend Levi Johnston). While driving Tripp to his football practice, Bristol talks to Tripp about Dakota not being around anymore to coach Tripp’s football team. Bristol says, “I don’t want you to be affected by anything that goes on,” but that’s just impossible. She then tells him “If you want to have a relationship with him (Dakota), I’m all for it.”
Bristol knows that Dakota was a big part of Tripp’s life (they were married for the past two years). She tells Tripp, “If you miss him (Dakota) and you want him to be a part of your life, just tell me.” She doesn’t let that offer sit long before she asks Tripp, ‘So, do you want to see Dakota? Or do you not care?” Tripp says what most kids in awkward conversations tend to say: “I don’t know.” Again, Bristol pushes, “Do you want me to reach out to Dakota?” she asks. When Tripp says no in an exasperated way, Bristol reads that as “So you don’t want a relationship with him?” Tripp shakes his head no. The poor kid looks like he just wants the (televised) conversation with his mother to end. Teen Mom OG airs Mondays at 9 pm on MTV.
