The American Horror Story: Cult episode ‘Mid-Western Assassin’ includes a mass shooting scene at a political rally. The episode has been edited in wake of the Las Vegas massacre. AHS creator Ryan Murphy told The New Yorker TV critic Emily Nussbaum: “I believe I have the right to air it. But I also believe in victim’s rights and I believe that now is not the week to have something explosive or incendiary in the culture.”
Days before the episode airs, Murphy posted a photo of lead actor Evan Peters (as “cult leader” Andy Warhol, see below), and a fan in Las Vegas took the opportunity to tell Murphy that although she was “affected by the shooting” she doesn’t think the episode should be edited. “I want to see the original episode, not some edited episode that’s sensitive so it doesn’t offend” In that same conversation with the New Yorker, when asked about being accused of doing things to provoke, he replied, “I never do anything to offend.” American Horror Story: Cult airs Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.
