During the third round of auditions on America’s Got Talent, an 82-year-old woman from Oklahoma City named Joan Colee walked on the stage and proclaimed her love for judge Simon Cowell. (She’s not the only older female contestant to do so. Big Benji professed her love and got a snog from Simon.) Joan sang “You Make Me Feel So Young” and Mel B hit her buzzer right away but Joan got enough yeses to advance thanks to Simon. Mel B was accused of being jealous.
Joan really can sing. She is the founder and director of the Oklahoma Senior Cabaret, a group of senior (56 to 86 years old) singers, dancers and performers who put on a big production every year in the fall. Proceeds go back to the local senior community for programs like getting seniors hearing aids. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC (repeats air Fridays at 8pm).
