After nearly 30 years, Lifetime has produced a remake of the 1988 tearjerker film Beaches directed by the late great Garry Marshall. It’s about two girls who meet by chance in Venice Beach and stay friends through thick and thick. In the 2017 version, Idina Menzel (Frozen) plays the role of Broadway-bound CC Bloom (originally portrayed by Bette Midler) who sings the popular song “Wind Beneath My Wings.”

Nia Long (The Best Man Holiday) plays the role of single mom, terminally ill Hillary. The character was originally portrayed by Barbara Hershey. Hershey is also known for her roles on the TV shows Damien (Ann), Once Upon a Time (Cora), Chicago Hope (Dr. Francesca Alberghetti), and in the films The Right Stuff (Glennis Yeager), The Natural (Harriet Bird), Hannah and Her Sisters (Lee), Hoosiers (Myra Fleener), Black Swan (Erica Sayers/The Queen), and The Portrait of a Lady for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, among many others. Beaches premieres on Lifetime on January 21 at 8pm. It will be followed by Beaches: The Aftershow.
