The 1988 Garry Marshall film Beaches starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey was a huge success as was the soundtrack which featured Midler’s song “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Lifetime has produced a remake almost 30 years later starring singer Idina Menzel (who plays Midler’s role, CC Bloom) and Nia Long (who plays Hershey’s role, Hillary). Menzel knows how to make a movie song a hit too (you may have heard“Let It Go” from Frozen).
Nia Long is known for her roles on Uncle Buck (Alexis Russell), The Divide (Billie Page), House of Lies (Tamara), Third Watch (Sasha Monroe), Judging Amy (Andrea Solomon), and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (Lisa Wilkes), among others. Long is also recognized for her roles in the films Keanu (Hannah), The Best Man Holiday, Big Momma’s House (Sherry Pierce), Alfie (Lonette), and Boyz n the Hood (Brandi). Beaches premieres on Lifetime on January 21 at 8pm. It will be followed by Beaches: The Aftershow.
