Not one but three major entertainment players hit the Howard Stern Show Monday — because if you’ve got something to promote, you’ve got to talk to Howard. In a wildly changing media environment, talking to Howard remains the only steady rule. Stern might have started out saying he was the “King of All Media” as a joke, but no one has shown more longevity, reach and promo power.
So Monday finds sports guru Bill Simmons, late night staple Jimmy Kimmel and comedy legend Steve Martin all sitting in with Howard. That’s a crazy hot trio who can all match wits with Howard. Simmons, like Stern, is a first-rate interviewer who has built his own brand in iconoclastic style. Kimmel and Stern hatched from the same damn egg — Stern probably dreamed of “mean tweets” long before Twitter was invented. And Steve Martin — well, that means there are two truly wild and crazy guys in the studio. Steve Martin has never been on Stern’s show, unbelievably. This is an All-Star day for Stern programming. Here’s what the three are promoting:
- Jimmy Kimmel is taking over for Michael Strahan, guest hosting Live! with Kelly Ripa
- Bill Simmons has a new media deal called “The Ringer” since he left Grantland with ESPN. Simmons also has an HBO show starting in June called Any Given Wednesday. (see promo below)
- Steve Martin has a play on Broadway called “Bright Star.”
