Genial TV host Tom Bergeron was missing from Dancing with the Stars this week. Former DWTS winner Alfonso Ribeiro (who took over Bergeron’s old job as host of America’s Funniest Videos) stood in for Bergeron. On Twitter, Bergeron revealed that he was traveling to be at his father’s bedside. “He’s given me a lifetime of support,” Bergeron wrote. “Time to return the favor.”
The 60-year-old Bergeron was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. A few years back, during happier times for his family, Bergeron returned to the small town for a book-signing event while promoting his book, I’m Hosting as Fast as I Can! Bergeron said then of his visit: “You know, it’s always nice to come back home to Haverhill, and it’s particularly flattering to be greeted as warmly as I am when I do come back.” That day Bergeron was presented with the key to the city. Both his parents, Raymond and Kay Bergeron, were there for the ceremony, and they must have been very proud.
