Sports Illustrated football analyst Andy Benoit is in a position that’s probably the next evolutionary step for models in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue — he’s got his tail between his legs. (Will Hannah Davis assume that position?) Benoit is apologizing for saying women’s sports “aren’t worth watching.” In fact he’s really apologizing hard, saying that “in [his] stupidity” he “overcompensated by saying something ignorant and extreme.”
Why’d Benoit feel the need to bow so low? After all, sexist comments from male football analysts aren’t exactly rare. Benoit found himself in the sights of Seth Meyers and the hilarious stinging realist Amy Poehler on Meyers’ late night show. Poehler: “I guess I’m not surprised that you work for Sports Illustrated. You guys put out a swimsuit issue every year dedicated entirely to women who aren’t in sports — unless you think that it’s a sport to cover both boobs with one arm.”
