Guitar hero John 5 and David Lee Roth have put together an album’s worth of material and it’s “11 of the greatest songs you’ll ever hear.” That’s exactly what John5 told Mitch Lafon in a recent interview. David Lee Roth, the on-again off-again Van Halen frontman, made news earlier this week showing off his fresh Japanese tattoo in a new video filmed at LAX. The Japanese influence is no surprise for the unpredictable singer–he took up residence in Tokyo a couple of years ago. (He still has houses in NYC and California.) The new John 5-David Lee Roth album, which Roth calls the ” California Sessions” has no immediate release date. John 5 and DLR just wrote songs during the day and laid down the tracks at night, simple as that.
But “it’s unbelieveable,” says John 5. The two musicians are old friends. They first worked together back in 1998 for Roth’s “DLR Band” project. John 5 says DLR really turns back the clock on the new “California Sessions” album, singing like the original Diamond Dave of Van Halen who once ruled stadiums and MTV. “It’s incredible,” John 5 says. And now we have to wait.
