Actress Debra Messing (Will & Grace, Smash) has been cast in the three-hour ABC TV special Dirty Dancing. The remake of the 1987 film about a young woman who falls in love with a troubled dance instructor in the Catskills will star Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Scream Queens) as the young woman, ironically called “Baby” by her protective father. In the film, Baby was portrayed by Jennifer Grey. The late Patrick Swayze played the dance instructor Johnny Castle, and the late great Jerry Orbach played Baby’s father.

Messing will play Baby’s mother Marjorie Houseman who was portrayed by actress Kelly Bishop. Bishop is best known for her role as Emily Gilmore, Lorelai’s mother and Rory’s grandmother on Gilmore Girls. Bishop most recently appeared on The Good Wife as Diane Lockhart’s pro-choice friend Bea Wilson.
