The horror film The Lazarus Effect is about a group of medical students who discover a way to bring the dead back to life. They try it on a dead dog which works at first but then things going really wrong. One of the students, Zoe (Olivia Wilde, House, M.D.) gets electrocuted during an experiment and dies. Her boyfriend Frank (Mark Duplass, Togetherness, The Mindy Project) resurrects her. That works, too. But again, things going really wrong. Zoe starts killing her colleagues.
Everything we just wrote is revealed in the trailer including the brutal death of Zoe’s colleague, Nico, who’s portrayed by Donald Glover (Troy on Community). Several fans of horror films and the TV show Community voiced their disappointment about Nico (“the black guy”) getting killed right away. There’s a theory that “the black guy always dies first in horror movies.” After watching the trailer, levar1979 wrote: “They at least could have pretended the black guy would survive until we saw the movie.” CrazyDelcyTV chimed in: “They’re past killing the one black guy first in movies now, they kill them in trailers.” Mike oone pleaded: “no more killing black people in movies. #blacklivesmatter.”
