On the 90 Days Fiance: Before the 90 Days episode “The Things We Do for Love,” while Paul and Karine rush to the hospital and are told that the baby has abnormalities, Ricky is at a lake apologizing to Ximena. But the apology is not enough for Ximena. She wants him to prove it by jumping in the water, knowing that Ricky doesn’t know how to swim. “If you jump, I forgive you. And I will never speak of Melissa again.” She explains why she asked him to do it. “I know he is making a sacrifice for me. I know he’s not doing it for Melissa, but for me.”
Ricky agrees to do it but tells Ximena, “If I die, it’s your fault,” to which she quickly replies with a smile, “Okay. I can live with that.” He takes off his shirt and then says, “Adios, Melissa,” and jumps in to the delight of Ximena. It’s like watching a religious ceremony: a baptism (Ricky gives Ximena a visual testimony of his commitment) or maybe it’s more like an exorcism (an expulsion of an evil spirit from a person). The irony of Ximena’s ceremonial rite is that Ricky’s last words before jumping into the water weren’t “I love you, Ximena!” (as she asked him to shout) but rather “Adios, Melissa!” 90 Days Fiance: Before the 90 Days airs Sundays at 8pm on TLC.
