Cruz Beckham, the 11-year-old son of soccer star David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, just dropped a Christmas tune called “If Every Day Was Christmas.” (He may be just the kid to sing it, because for Cruz that’s pretty much been the case!) The young Beckham didn’t have to wait in line to audition for American Idol or X-Factor, of course — he’s sort of connected. But that doesn’t mean Cruz is cruising on his name alone. Because no matter what your last name is, it doesn’t guarantee you’ll get half a million views on YouTube and as many more views and listens on all the other platforms out there. Cruz got that in a day and a half. Cruz’s Christmas cut is listenable and cheerful, and it never leaves its sweet eleven-year-oldness behind, which is part of its charm.
Of course the biggest kid name to hit YouTube and everywhere else since Michael Jackson is Justin Bieber, whose younger self had a lot in common with today’s young Cruz Beckham. For Cruz, Bieber’s success is something to aim for. Bieber, of course, released a popular Christmas song too — you may have heard? — in 2011. 40 million views later, Beiber has informed a LOT of people that “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Both videos below:
