In the pilot of the HBO drama Divorce, we meet Frances (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Robert DuFresne (Thomas Haden Church), a middle-aged couple going through a long divorce. They have two kids and live in a suburb of New York City. In the beginning of the show, we also meet Frances’ best friends Diane (Molly Shannon) who’s married to Nick (Tracy Letts) and Dallas, a divorced mom.
Dallas is portrayed by Talia Balsam. She’s known for her roles on Mad Men (Mona Sterling) with her real life husband John Slattery, Homeland (Cynthia Walden), Without a Trace (Maria Malone), K Street (Gail), and L.A. Doctors (Julie Lonner), among many others. Balsam is also recognized for her roles in the films No Strings Attached (Sandra Kurtzman) and All the Kings’ Men with Sean Penn (Lucy Stark). Fun family facts about Balsam: She is the daughter of actors Martin Balsam (12 Angry Men, Psycho, Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and Joyce Van Patten (The Mary Tyler Moore Show). Talia Balsam’s first husband was George Clooney (1989-1993). Divorce airs Sundays at 10pm on HBO.
