Jiaying Han is the 5-year-old little girl from China who can hypnotize animals. She demonstrated her unique talent on the American TV show, Little Big Shots. On stage, Jiaying hypnotized five animals. She started with the largest, a dog. She laid the dog down on a table and told him “it’s time to go to sleep” (in Chinese). She put a small blue velvet pillow near the dog’s head and then placed the dog’s paw over his eye. Jiaying then moved on to hypnotize a frog, a chicken, a lizard, and a bunny. Don’t worry she wakes them all up at the end.
Experts say Jiaying uses tonic immobility, a natural state of paralysis which animals use to avoid or deter predators – aka playing dead. Depending on the animal, it can be induced a number of ways. Watch how Jiaying adds pressure to the frog’s belly and the way she draws a line on the pillow of the chicken and has the chicken look at the line. If she had a lobster on the show, she would stroke its shell. Little Big Shots airs at 7pm and 8pm on NBC.
