Cabbage Patch Kids were all the rage in the early 1980s. They were soft, handstitched dolls that kids “adopted.” Like children, each one was different, and came with adoption papers and a birth certificate. More than 30 years later, Wicked Cool Toys (and Israeli tech company Seebo) is making a modern version with LCD eyes and touch sensors on the dolls’ feet, cheeks, legs, back and forehead.
Mashable got a sneak peek at The CPK Baby So Real doll, and claims the LCD eyes are “bizarre but cool.” If you think Chucky from the 1988 slasher film Child’s Play is “bizarre but cool” you might be interested in seeing the CPK’s cheeks turn red when she’s sick. Or in hearing the CPK laugh when you tickle her feet. Unlike in real life, the “parents” of CPK babies earn points for carrying out tasks like feeding the baby when she’s hungry. Wicked Cool Toys will launch CPD in fall 2016 for $99.99. A Chucky boy version will likely follow.
