How do you welcome someone back from the Army? Well it depends on the soldier, and it depends on who you are. If the soldier is Elvis Presley and you’re a young woman, you scream your head off to welcome him back–that recognizable piercing scream that belongs solely to the 1960s. (The Beatles got it too.)
Now if the soldier is Elvis Presley, and you’re music legend Frank Sinatra, you don’t scream. Instead you just say casually that you want to welcome Elvis back after his two years of service. Then you mention that he seems to have lost his sideburns while he was away. And then you sing a duet–a combo of Love Me Tender and Witchcraft. (Sinatra and Elvis sing together at the 7:00 mark.) This video is from a show called “Welcome Home Elvis” that aired 50 years ago on CBS. It was watched by two-thirds of all TV viewers.
