Remember when comedian-turned-movie actress Rosie O’Donnell (A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle) had her own talk show in the late 1990s? She wore Hillary Clinton inspired pant suits back then and had the golden opportunity of interviewing Barbra Streisand in 1997. Rosie brought in her own Barbra memorabilia from home — albums, CDs, buttons, mugs, magnets. Higher Ground was the album Babs was promoting at the time.
Before Streisand came out through the curtain, Rosie was so nervous to meet her childhood idol, she told the live audience: “People told me just to be myself but I’ve been trying to be her for 35 years, so how can I be myself?” Rosie gets another chance to interview Streisand on September 16 on ABC’s The View, with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace. A lot has happened to Rosie and Babs over the past 17 years. If you’re not satisfied with their reunion on The View, check out one of the most sincere interviews on daytime TV history, below.
