Khloé Kardashian’s current boyfriend, the Moroccan-born rapper known as French Montana, has been nominated for a 2014 African Muzik Magazine Award. The category is Best Male Diaspora. French Montana, né Karim Kharbouch, was born in Rabat, Morocco. He left the African country at the age of 13, and moved with his family to South Bronx, New York.
The singer Wale, a Nigerian-American born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin in Washington, DC, was also nominated for the title. The two 29-year-old artists with African roots have worked together. Just last year, they performed the song “Back 2 Ballin.” The lyrics include the Arabic greeting often used by Muslims: “As-salamu alaykum” – Wale added the word ‘homie’ to the hook. French Montana is a practicing Muslim. He’s currently observing Ramadan which includes abstaining from sex, as his celebrity girlfriend has been attesting to, publicly.
