Quarterly Co. is a subscription service ($25 per quarter) that tries to diminish the six degrees of separation between you and, well, not celebrities exactly but influential people in certain circles. People you might friend on Facebook or follow on Twitter because you read one of their articles or books. As a Quarterly “contributor” they prove that they like you back with a personalized note and present delivered to your house. So, if you choose bestselling cookbook writers Amanda Hesser & Merrill Stubbs, they’ll send something nifty for your kitchen or dining room table. Science journalist Joshua Foer claims he’ll send “a machine for experimental living.”
Quarterly founder Zach Frechette is considered a big deal in Los Angeles. The former editor in chief of GOOD magazine (tagline: For People Who Give a Damn) was interviewed by the blog LA I AM YOURS where Frechette said of his new endeavor: “It’s a celebration of receiving awesome shit in the mail.”
