In the Empire episode ‘Strange Bedfellows,’ it’s Hakeem’s (Bryshere Gray) 21st birthday. His mother Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) says, ‘Happy Birthday, but we can’t celebrate until after some of this drama dies down.” The core of the drama is Anika (Grace Byers) who’s still after Cookie. Lucious (Terrence Howard) has no idea what Anika overheard but Cookie might. Her man Angelo (Taye Diggs) is nervous. “What does Anika have on you? What are you hiding?” he asks. Those are reasonable questions – especially since he’s running for Mayor – but do you think Cookie’s going to spill if there’s a chance she doesn’t have to?
Cookie and Lucious eventually team up to confront Anika and threaten to kill her. But guess who wants a shot at her first? (Hint: It’s all in the family.) Empire airs Wednesdays at 9pm on FOX.
