The Dateline NBC episode ‘The Good Husband’ is about the death of 44-year-old physical therapist Thomas “Tom” Kolman in Ulster, New York. He was found dead in his car on November 29, 2011. There was no evidence of a heart attack or other natural causes so the Ulster Police Department investigated. They discovered that his wife Linda Kolman was having an affair with her husband’s best friend, local dentist Dr. Gilberto Nunez. The autopsy revealed that Tom Kolman was given the medical/dental sedative midazolam, possibly in a cup of coffee. At Nunez’s trial, Linda Kolman testified, “I fell in love with [Nunez]. I was torn.” She said she told her husband about the affair and that she planned to end her relationship with Nunez.

In June 2016, Nunez was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Kolman. Jurors said there wasn’t enough evidence to convict. In a separate case, in April 2015, Nunez was “indicted for seven felonies: grand larceny, insurance fraud and five counts of falsifying business records — related to a 2014 fire in a building he owned.” He was found guilty on all seven counts on October 25, 2016. Dateline NBC will air its investigation of the Tom Kolman murder and Nunez trial on Friday, November 4 at 9pm.
