In the Season 4 premiere episode of Ripper Street,”The Strangers’ Home,” Edmund Reid (Matthew MacFadyen) returns to the Victorian streets of Whitechapel to re-investigate a case initiated by Bennett Drake (Jerome Flynn) and Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg). Along the way, Reid encounters the Captain’s estranged wife Long Susan, the former Madam who’s now trying to contribute to society…but on her own terms.
Long Susan is portrayed by MyAnna Buring. The Swedish-born actress grew up in the Middle East before moving to Great Britain at the age of 16. There, she launched her acting career. She’s known for her TV roles on Banished (Elizabeth Quinn), Dag (Anne), and Downtown Abbey (Edna Braithwaite), among others. Buring is also recognized for her roles in the films The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 (Tanya) and the 2014 comedy Lost in Karastan with Ripper Street star Matthew MacFadyen. Ripper Street airs Thursdays at 10pm on BBC.
