I am interested in the relationship between the concrete and the symbolic, specifically in the conversations I imagine they have with one another. I often hear the concrete complaining to the symbolic that it thinks too much and does too little and the symbolic responding that it wasn’t put on this earth to do the heavy lifting. Though they bicker, their conflicted love/hate relationship is the foundation on which they build narratives and tell stories that are otherwise untold.
‘Significant Others’ is a project involving the couplings and groupings of seemingly disparate objects whose chief aim is to create new meaning. Reorganizing as assortment of found objects, images and text, into wholes that are greater than the sum of their parts, representations are layered and bonds are forged between the worthless and the worthy.
