Peter Carl Fabergé was the first to bling the Easter egg. He was (is still is posthumously) the world’s master craftsman of jewelry. In 1885, he was appointed Goldsmith to the Imperial Crown by Tsar Alexander III in 1885. Today, Google honors him (and his eggs) with a doodle on what would have been his 166th birthday.
Although known as a dapper traveling fashionster, Fabergé never travelled with luggage (he bought everything he needed once he arrived). One wonders what he would have thought about Hermes’ Birkin Himalayan Bag which is encrusted in diamonds including a 3 carat diamond on the lock. One of the three very limited edition bags has been seen on the bejeweled arm of pop-singer-turned-fashion-designer Victoria Beckham. In her 2012 spring ready-to-wear collection (Victoria by Victoria Beckham), she dubbed a blue and gold egg-shaped jacquard dress “a Fabergé.”
