Tattoo-turned-visual artist and aging enfant terrible Scott Campbell set his already-sold work on fire at Vice’s Mexico City gallery, irate because a Polish vodka sponsor got top billing on the invitation. The pieces were mostly images laser-cut from stacks of dollar bills. The gallery managed to salvage the work. Tough times: no money to burn.
Campbell is best known for tattooing fellow bad boys like designer Marc Jacobs and racy celebrity photographer Terry Richardson, whose first solo show in L.A. “Terrywood,” is now on view at OH WOW (the same gallery that represents Campbell there). Attendees at Richardson’s opening included Paris and Nikki Hilton, mistakenly driven there by a driver overhearing their conversation.
