On 20/20, ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts interviews Kim Pack, the daughter of popular radio talk show host April Kauffman. Kauffman was murdered, shot to death in her Linwood, New Jersey home in May 2012. Pack believes her step-father, Kauffman’s husband Dr. James “Jim” Kauffman (an endocrinologist), had her mother killed. Five years after April Kauffman’s death, her husband and motorcyclist Ferdinand “Freddy” Augello were charged with orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot. April allegedly had threatened to expose the drug ring (OxyContin) that her doctor husband and Augello were running out of Kauffman’s medical practice in Egg Harbor Township. Prosecutors say Jim Kauffman and Augello hired Francis Mullholland to kill April. Mullholland died of a heroin overdose a year-and-a-half after April Kauffman’s death.
In January 2018, while awaiting his trial, Jim Kauffman (who pleaded not guilty) was found dead in his cell of an apparent suicide. In April 2018, Augello pleaded not guilty. Augello will have a pretrial conference on July 19, and a trial is set to begin on September 11. 20/20 airs Fridays at 10pm on ABC.
