In the Blindspot episode “Let It Go,” Jane (Jaimie Alexander) receives shocking news about daughter Avery’s (Kristina Reyes) father which has her and Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) on the hunt for an elusive criminal. Meanwhile, back at the lab, Patterson’s (Ashley Johnson) father shows up wearing a purple plaid jacket and bow-tie.

Patterson’s father is portrayed by Bill Nye aka the Science Guy who plays himself. He’s best known for his PBS children’s science show, Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993-1998) and his current Netflix show Bill Nye Saves the World. Nye is a real-life engineer. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University where he studied astronomy with Carl Sagan, among other things. His first job out of college was at Boeing, where he invented a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube used on Boeing 747 airplanes. Blindspot airs Fridays at 8pm on NBC, right before Dateline.
