Former NFL player Chad Ochocinco Johnson (wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots) is one of the four celebrities participating in the televised group therapy show, Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars: Family Edition. With him is his mother Paula Johnson, who according to Chad left him with his grandmother (Paula’s mother Bessie) when he was 5 years old. Chad called his grandmother “Mama.”

Chad Johnson grew up not knowing his father Sam Brown. He explained in a 2016 interview (below) with Graham Bensinger that his father spent 23 or 24 years in jail for selling drugs. But when his father was released, they created a relationship before Chad’s father died of pancreatic cancer. “I tried to make the most out of it, with the time I had,” says Chad. Chad, now 39, is the father of six children with various women, which is a bone of contention between Chad and his mother. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars: Family Edition airs Fridays at 9pm on WEtv.
