Bravo’s new reality TV show First Family of Hip Hop follows the life of Leland Robinson, Sr., son of Joe and Sylvia Robinson, the husband and wife team behind Sugar Hill Records (the label that produced Sugar Hill Gang’s 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,”among others). Leland is now reviving Sugar Hill Records with the help of some family members including his cousin, Shanell “Lady Luck” Jones.
Shanell “Lady Luck” Jones is not modest. She says, “God dumped a bucket of talent when he made me.” While in high school, she got her big break freestyling on New York’s Hot 97 morning show. At the age of 16, she signed a record deal with Def Jam. You can hear her latest tracks including “She God” on SoundCloud. Lady Luck’s girlfriend and business partner Somaya Reece will also appear on First Family of Hip Hop which airs Sundays at 9pm on Bravo.
