The telethon Stand Up to Cancer will air on several TV networks including CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, TBS, HBO, VH1, Bravo, and Comedy Central on Friday, September 9 at 8pm. It’s a fund-raiser for cancer research which features musical performances and celebrity appearances. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will appear and talk about the Federal White House Cancer Moonshot Task Force and about his late son Beau Biden who died of brain cancer at the age of 46 in May 2015.
Joseph “Beau” Biden III was the Vice President’s eldest child with his first wife Neilia Biden. Beau and his brother Hunter were in the car with their mother and younger sister Naomi when the latter two were killed in an automobile accident in December 1972. Beau later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse University College of Law. Before being elected Delaware’s Attorney General in 2006, Beau Biden joined the military in 2003. He was a Major in the JAG Corps. In 2008, one day after introducing his father at the 2008 National Democratic Convention, Beau was deployed to Iraq. He returned to the U.S. in 2009 and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq. In 2013, Beau Biden was diagnosed with brain cancer.
