It takes guts to sing one of the coaches’ biggest hits right back at them on your Blind Audition on The Voice. And Lauren Diaz has guts to spare. She didn’t just sing — she boomed Alicia Keys super hit “If I Ain’t Got You” from a stage she completely owned. Keys was the first to turn her chair. Keys conclusion? “Did you hear that?” Keys asked. Yup, Diaz crushed it. Keys called it “God-given talent.”
Diaz may have been ultra cool when she was singing, but when she finished — and all four chairs had turned — her reaction wasn’t so measured. “Holy crap,” she said, almost in tears. Later, to drive the message home, she said “I’m gonna throw up.” Here Diaz was off by just a few letters. What she actually going to do is blow up. As in blow up big. In a foregone conclusion Diaz joined Team Alicia. And in her short interview she revealed a hint at what’s to come. She grew up, she said, playing the piano. The competition is on notice. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
