Guitar legend and one-time world No. 1 rock superstar Peter Frampton is grateful for where he is now, even if it’s a far cry from where he was headed. Actually, that’s a two-sided coin: in one sense Frampton was, in 1976, headed for stratospheric stardom and a place among first rank of rock and rollers. But in another sense Frampton was, like many of his musical contemporaries, headed for disaster. The guitar hero eventually pulled himself up and out of the Sgt. Pepper-sized pit he fell into (with a little help from David Bowie) and he’s still cooking today on the six-string.
On the Howard Stern Show this week Frampton came alive with some of his scary and beautiful tales of a career full of dizzying heights and deep trenches. Through it all, he “just wanted to play guitar,” Frampton told Stern. And then, incredibly, Peter Frampton played. He played “Do You Feel Like We Do” — the barn-burning megasmash from Frampton Comes Alive! And it was beautiful. Listen below.
