During Season 1 of The Affair, viewers watched two marriages crumble due to the affair had between Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson). In Season 2, their jilted spouses Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) get to blow off some steam while Noah and Alison see a couples therapist to try to make it work.
Their couples therapist is Marilyn Sanders. She’s portrayed by Cynthia Nixon who’s best known for her role as Miranda on Sex and the City. She has since appeared in The Big C (Rebecca), Alpha House (Senator Carly Armiston), and Hannibal (Kade Prurnell). And that’s just TV. She’s currently filming Terence Davies’ A Quiet Passion, a biopic of American poet Emily Dickinson. Nixon plays the poet. The Affair airs Sundays at 10pm on Showtime.
