On the TV drama The Slap, Rosie, the mother of Hugo – the child who got slapped – tries to strengthen her case against Harry (the one who slapped Hugo) as the trial draws near. Along the way, Rosie alienates the few people who actually sympathize with her. Rosie is portrayed by Australian-American actress Melissa George. She’s best known for her roles as the sexy nanny in Friends, Dr. Sadie Harris on Grey’s Anatomy, and Governor Florrick’s pregnant ethics director on The Good Wife.
Before launching her acting career in the Australian soap opera Home and Away in the early 1990s, George was a national rollerskating champion! Maybe it was her fancy footwork that had her as a serious contender for the physical role of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She had five screen tests for the role and thought she had it in the bag until Angelina Jolie came in at the last minute. The Slap airs Thursdays at 10pm on NBC.
