Actors Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson, Joaquin Phoenix, Daniel Radcliffe don’t believe in God. Brad Pitt once said “I’m probably 20 percent atheist and 80 percent agnostic. I don’t think anyone really knows.” At least he doesn’t have to talk about God with his wife Angelina Jolie–she doesn’t believe in God either. Nor do her fellow female actors Jodie Foster and Keira Knightley. It’s not just Hollywood stars who don’t believe in heaven and hell and all that. Silicon Valley billionaires Steve Wozniak (Apple co-founder) and Mark Zuckerberg don’t believe. Scientists Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins also don’t believe. (Actually that’s what Dawkins is famous for–he wrote The God Delusion.) The one thing TV talk host Bill Maher has in common with former Republican Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura? Atheism.
A lot of funny people find humor in God but don’t believe in Him, including: Kathy Griffin, Ricky Gervais, Seth MacFarlane and Hugh Laurie. Why don’t they believe? George Carlin, the funniest atheist to have lived, explained that it wasn’t a matter of not trying. “When it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is fucked up.”
