Country singer Lee Ann Womack is releasing her first album in six years, The Way I’m Livin’. She hasn’t given up on her country ways but the album isn’t traditional. The songs are described as “stripped-down, emotionally raw.” Don’t be surprised if the new Lee Ann Womack recipe shares some ingredients that also went into the stew of Miranda Lambert’s Platinum. Womack’s The Way I’m Livin’ highlights the singer’s vocal prowess and Womack’s husband, Frank Liddell, produced the albums for both.
The Way I’m Livin’ includes a spiritual–Mindy Smith’s “All His Saints,” and covers of Hayes Carll, Julie Miller, Bruce Robison. Plus Womack wows with a rendition of Neil Young’s Out On The Weekend. Womack had to slightly alter the lyrics to be sung by a woman: “See the lonely girl/ out on the weekend / Trying to make it pay. / Can’t relate to joy/ she tries to speak and / Can’t begin to say.” The Way I’m Livin’ will be released September 23.
