On the Million Dollar Matchmaker episode “The Rapping Politician & the 90’s Rap Icon,” Patti Stanger tries to help two rappers find love. The former politician is Shawn Isaac who’s now pursuing a music career as Shawn Don. (He was an Emergency Preparedness Commissioner for the City of Rancho Mirage for two years.) The icon is British rapper Monie Love who according to Patti “micromanages her men into man babies.” Monie admits that tends to be the one in charge and understands that she comes off as “bossy.”

In the early 1990s, Monie Love (born Simone Gooden) was one of the core members of the New York hip hop group Native Tongues. Other core members included Queen Latifah, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Jungle Brothers, among others. That’s Monie singing with Queen Latifah on her Grammy Award winning song “Ladies First” (see above) from her 1989 album All Hail The Queen. Monie released two solo albums – Down to Earth (1990) and In a Word or 2 (1993). Million Dollar Matchmaker airs Fridays at 9pm on WE.
