In The Goldbergs episode ‘O Captain! My Captain!’, Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is the substitute teacher for her son Barry’s (Troy Gentile) chemistry class. Inspired by Robin Williams’ performance as prep school teacher Mr. Keating in Dead Poets Society, Beverly stands on her desk and encourages the students to do the same. When Coach Mellor walks by he stops and blows his whistle to break it up.
Coach Mellor is portrayed by Bryan Callen. He’s also known for his roles on Kingdom (Garo Kassabian), In Plain Sight (Mark Stuber), Death Valley (Captain Dashell), How I Met Your Mother (Bilson), 7th Heaven (“Vic Petrowski), Fat Actress with Kirstie Alley (Eddie Falcone), Oz (Jonathan Coushaine), and MADtv, among others. Callen is also recognized for his roles in The Hangover movies. The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8pm on ABC.
