A 23-year-old blue-haired woman named Took is featured on MTV’s docu-series True Life. She’s started a commune in Staten Island, New York but it’s not going as well as expected. Took is “super stressed out” after the building had a bedbug scare. “Everything’s still a mess,” she says as the MTV cameras pan to a pile of plastic bags on the floor.
Took complains about people not coming to meetings among other things. “I just want to cry, honestly,” Took says, as she plays an electronic piano on a bed. “It just makes me feel sad — that people don’t see what I see.” However, Took does (kind of) remain hopeful for the future: “I think if society doesn’t crumble, that by the time my life is over, I’ll have an urban commune in my 30s.” Hopefully without bed bugs. True Life airs Wednesdays at 11pm on MTV.
