For her audition on America’s Got Talent, singer Tia Simone from Lansing, Michigan gave a memorable performance of the 1966 song “Knock on Wood” which Amii Stewart turned into a disco hit in 1979. Wearing a tall afro, long tight dress and a big attitude, Tia Simone strutted across the stage like a young Tina Turner. “Go big or go home,” is what AGT judge Simon Cowell said, giving Simone a big yes.
Tia acknowledges Tina Turner as her inspiration on social media. “I can sooo appreciate a Sanger (sic) who glistens, sweats and drips as much as I do on stage!!” Something else Tia has in common with Ms. Turner is her hard work ethic. Tia missed watching her debut on national TV because she was rehearsing with her band Super Fly. Good thing her mom recorded it for her (see below). America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
