In the Season 1 finale of Heartbeat, when Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George) isn’t fighting to save the lives of Jesse, Pierce and Ji-Sung from a mysterious illness, she’s trying to help an older man, Jasper Shaw, who’s looking for his missing wife. Alex’s conversation with Mr. Shaw prompts her to make a drastic decision about her love life.
Mr. Jasper Shaw is portrayed by veteran actor Paul Dooley. He’s known for his roles on Huge (Joe Sosniak), Curb Your Enthusiasm (Cheryl’s father), ER (Henry Lewis), The Practice (Judge Philip Swackheim), Grace Under Fire (John Shirley), and Dream On (Mickey Tupper), among others. Dooley is also recognized for his roles in the films Sixteen Candles (Molly Ringwalds’ father), Runaway Bride (Julia Robert’s father), Hairspray (Mr. Spritzer), and A Mighty Wind (George Menschell). Or maybe you recognize his voice — he’s Sarge in the Cars movies. Heartbeat airs Wednesdays at 8pm on NBC.
