Kip Moore was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the American Country Countdown Awards on Monday, Decmber 15. It’s the only fan-voted category. At the awards ceremony he performed his hit Unless Heaven’s Got A Dirt Road.
Before making it big in Nashville, Moore was homeless. He says he “lived in a tent for six months” in Hawaii. He surfed all day, “worked odd jobs and wrote songs – and I had the time of my life.” When he moved to Nashville to focus on his songs, before signing that big contract, Moore worked as a store manager for Abercrombie & Fitch.
