British actress Keira Knightley is currently starring in the girl-buddy rom-com film Laggies. Knightley plays a 28-year-old who lives with her high school sweetheart (Mark Webber) and then freaks out when he proposes. She pretends to go on a business retreat but actually hangs out with a 16-year-old (Chloe Grace Moretz) and her attractive, single father (Sam Rockwell).
This week, it’s been announced that Knightley will make her Broadway debut in a new stage adaptation of Emile Zola’s 1867 novel Therese Raquin. Adultery, madness and guilt are all included in the racy Paris-set play. Therese Raquin will kick off the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 50th anniversary season, to open October 2015. If you can’t catch the show, you can always rent In Secret, the 2013 film starring Elizabeth Olsen as Therese and Jessica Lange as Therese’s domineering aunt, Madame Raquin. Movie critic Odie Henderson of RogerEbert.com gave In Secret three stars even though it was roundly panned at the Toronto Film Festival. “It’s my kind of crazy, and I was quite entertained,” wrote Henderson.
