Actress Lea Thompson is best known for her role as Lorraine Baines in the Back to the Future series. Thompson has had an impressive TV (Caroline in the City, Switched at Birth) and film career (All the Right Moves with Tom Cruise, and John Hughes’ Some Kind of Wonderful). Few people know that she also had a promising career as a ballerina. She danced in more than 45 ballets with the American Ballet Theatre. But after ABT artistic director Mikhail Baryshnikov told her she was “a beautiful dancer but too stocky,” Thompson shifted her career toward acting.

When not in the dance studio, Thompson will be on the talk shows promoting her latest film, an apocalyptic thriller called Left Behind. Thompson plays the wife of Nicolas Cage’s character, a pilot who (in mid flight) tries to calm hysterical passengers who have seen loved ones vanish before their eyes.
